Does this actually have safedisc drm?

Unless there are different versions of this game, the disc I have does not appear to have any form of DRM (besides looking for an A: drive as per my other discussion), and no tools find any DRM on the disc or on the installed files.

It specifically differentiates early prints which did from later ones which didn't.

Fixing the "Please insert the LEGO Chess CD-ROM in your CD Drive" message

Everywhere talks about installing the patch, which not only removes all of the CD features (startup movie, story movies, etc.) but makes the game very prone to crashing. The fix is to have any drive on your machine use drive letter A: (which is usually reserved for floppy drives).

On my Windows 10 64 bit machine this removed the prompt and the game no longer crashes, but I was still missing the movie scenes. I was able to run it with the movie scenes in VirtualBox with Windows XP, which reserves the A drive for a floppy - so you'll have to install a floppy controller and drive.

Did you install the patches or do i have to uninstall the game first and not install the patches to get the cutscenes?

Robomwm (talkcontribs)

Nope, patches aren't needed at all.

Since the patches remove the disc check, it also removes all the cutscenes and anything else that touches the disc afaik.

Theacidviking (talkcontribs)

wait so what steps did you take to get it to work? I am running windows xp in virtaul box and have gotten through set up and am now stuck at insert disc

Robomwm (talkcontribs)

With Windows XP and Virtualbox: Select the VM, click settings > storage. Click icon to add a storage controller and add the (floppy) controller. Click the floppy disk icon on the added controller to add a floppy disk drive.

Runs a lot more stable when installed using wineDVM

Runs a lot more stable when you run the install it via wineDVM. Much better than the installer it allows you to configure the resolution and video drivers for the game when you do it this way than the method that's on the page.

I created an alternative installation file according to the instructions, but I get this message when I try to start:

«Setup requries _SETUP.DLL and _ISRES.DLL (located in _SETUP.LIB) in order to operate properly. Please ensure these files are located with SETUP.EXE»

But all the files mentioned are in the same folder with SETUP.EXE. Could this be due to the fact that I have a russian version of the game?
