It was established as an independent video game development company Distinctive Software in 1982, before being acquired by EA in 1991 and became a division under EA as EA Canada. EA Canada had absorbed half of EA Seattle's staff following the latter's closure in 2002. In May 2016, EA Canada was renamed to EA Vancouver. EA Vancouver's headquarter, located in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, had formerly housed staff of EA Black Box until its closure in 2013.
