Win 7 compat mode crashes

I set compatibility mode for Win7 as instructed to fix micro stutter, but that results in a reliable crash upon starting the game.

I have win8.1 x64. I think that advice is not good- anyone have any explanations or reasons why I shouldn't remove that advice?

Garrett (talkcontribs)

I have removed it. There is no reference so it might simply be a placebo effect someone experienced.

I put it back. The issue IS RESOLVED when running the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode as well as setting the CPU affinity to disable one of the CPU cores. Game is installed on a non-Windows drive and the application DOES NOT CRASH at startup.

Listen, I would already find weird that something so.. insignificant as Windows 7 compatibility has effects...

But disabling cpu cores? Really?? It's a 2012 game god.
We may complain it does not use more than 2 or three cores, but it's definitively meant to be used on newer systems.

Besides, windows 8 even with 4 cores has nothing to do with stuttering

Agreed, I find it far more likely that for whatever reason, vsync isn't kicking on until the coincidental act of enabling compatibility mode. Or the micro-stutter was imagined in the first place.
