Key points
- The PC version adds improved flashlight lighting and the ability to save at any time during the game
- Some pixelated shadows and depth-of-field.
- FPS may fluctuate between 30 FPS and 60 FPS. There are no known solutions to this.
- Only supports DirectInput for controllers and default bindings are awkward. Controls should be adjusted.
- 14 of Heather's outfits in the PS2 version are removed.

- The North American physical release had 5 CDs, while the European PC physical release features just one DVD. The European version requires a disc check each time you want to play.
Essential improvements
Unlock Silent Hill 2 references
- You first need to have some completed SH2 PC save and copy it to your SH3 save directory which should normally be located in "C:\Program Files\Konami\SILENT HILL 3\savedata" (of course, replace C with your drive letter on your machine if it's not C drive).
- Then enter the registry (Start -> Run -> "regedit")
- Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Konami.
- Then right click on that Konami folder on the left and choose New -> Key. A new folder will appear below Konami, name it "Silent Hill2" (without the quotation marks, and make sure there is no space between "Hill" and "2")
- In that new "Silent Hill2" folder you created in the registry, you must add an additional key named "INSTALLDIR" . To add it, in the "Silent Hill2" folder you created right click on the right side of the screen, then choose New -> String value, and name it "INSTALLDIR" (again, without quotation marks).
- Then right click on it, choose Modify, and type "C:\Program Files\KONAMI\Silent Hill2" (no quotations), again replacing that "C" with your drive if it isn't C drive.

Silent Hill 3 with corrected FoV

- Flawless Widescreen supports this game.
Note: The aspect ratio may need to be narrower. If the game appears too wide, go to Flawless Widescreen's program files, find the Silent Hill 3 plugin config, and change 1.33 to 1.2. If you receive a permission error, close Flawless Widescreen, drag the file to your desktop and edit it there, then drag it back in.
If, for some reason, Flawless Widescreen does not work, try FOV tool.

Issues unresolved
Silent Hill 3 is usually considered the best PC port out of the Silent Hill PlayStation 2 releases. Still, it is not a perfect port by any means.
- Low resolution Depth of Field effect. Also, no options to crank it up or turn it off.
- If using anti aliasing (MSAA, at least), Depth of Field effect becomes corrupted (halos around objects).
- Rendering resolution (usually found under Inventory > Options > Configuration) is actually internal framebuffer resolution. Use it to match your display resolution.
- By default, the game creates savegames in its own folder. This can cause issues for users with non-elevated privileges. The workaround is to change the default save location by modifying the registry.
