Set custom FOV[citation needed]
|
- Go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Eidos Montreal\Thief\Graphics\
- Open
FOVCorrection
- Use a hexidecimal value to adjust the FOV, e.g. 9C40 (which is hexadecimal for 40,000) will add 40° to the 90° base FOV.
- The change will remain as long as the in-game FOV slider is not touched.
Notes
- Does not work if you set the game to run on Surround/Eyefinity

Fixing "Timed Fade" option for in-game HUD
Fixing "Timed Fade" option for in-game HUD[citation needed]
|
When Health, Focus, Ammo and Inventory are set to "Timed Fade" in the Game & HUD menu, they only fade to around 50% opacity. This fix will make them completely disappear after a short while of inactivity, relieving the HUD of clutter.
- Open
<path-to-game>\ThiefGame\Config\ThiefUI.ini
- Find
mInvSelectionAlphaMin= , mHealthAlphaMin= and mFocusAlphaMin= and change their values to 0.0f;
- Save your changes.
Notes
- No in-game settings override these, so no need to set the file as read-only.
|
Disable shroud effect (black/white fog at screen edges)
- Using this tweak on existing saves will make the shroud reappear when loading a save (it will disappear after a cutscene is triggered).
Modify ThiefGame.ini[6]
|
- Go to
<path-to-game>\ThiefGame\Config
- Open
ThiefGame.ini
- Change
mbForceHideCloakEffect=0 to mbForceHideCloakEffect=1
- Save your changes and close the file.
- Right-click it and choose Properties, tick Read Only and click OK.

Reduce mouse input lag
Reducing mouse input lag[citation needed]
|
If the "Exclusive Fullscreen" setting is unchecked, the visuals will be one frame behind your input. You can fix this by either checking "Exclusive Fullscreen" in the game options, or by disabling "one frame thread lag" in the configuration files like so:
- Open
<path-to-game>\Engine\Config\BaseEngine.ini
- Change
OneFrameThreadLag=True to OneFrameThreadLag=False
- Save your changes.
If this doesn't help, see "High frame rate" above.

Missing voices, subtitles, music, and other sound effects
Install game on internal drive[7]
|
If the game is on an external drive, voices, subtitles, music, and some sound effects like lightning may not play during the game. This can easily be observed in the prologue cutscene, where Garrett should be speaking. If you installed the game on an external drive, try moving it to an internal drive (it does not have to be the C drive).
