Apologies for changing the pages so much, but I wanted to keep them separate as they are technically separate games, even if they are sold together. I felt that it would be easier for both editors and viewers if the content, fixes, etc. of each game was separated between two pages.

Wakyz (talkcontribs)

I figures as such. The main reason I created only one page in the first place was the fact that the fixes for both games are exactly the same. The config program bundled with both games is the same, and doesn't even change the file for the two games. So any fix for one game would be a fix for the other. The only difference between the two are the install locations in the Steamapps folder and the steam appid.

Wakyz (talkcontribs)

By change the file, I mean change location/name of the file. Both games' config modifies the same file.

Nicereddy (talkcontribs)

In that case, we can just combine the pages into one and create two sections in the Game Data section. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

No problem. BTW, I'm going to adjust the Ys Series page according to the list on the right side here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ys_(series)#Games

I think that might make it a bit easier, since it aligns with the official wiki entry better.

Nicereddy (talkcontribs)

That's perfectly fine. For the release dates we can just list the English releases, unless they were only released in Japan, because this is a primarily English wiki.

Garrett (talkcontribs)

For reference I have rearranged the list; the current wiki policy is to list games in release order, not chronological order; similarly, the wiki does not currently distinguish between canon and non-canon entries.

Wakyz (talkcontribs)

Yes, but the first five games on the list don't have any relevance at all. Where did you get Ancient Land of Ys and Ys II Special from? I don't think they even exist. Ys I and II Eternal are based on Ys I and II Complete, how do they have separate release dates before Complete? Ys I & II Eternal is one game. Ys I & II Chronicles+ is based on Ys I & II Complete, but is the newest version. Finally, All Ys I & II games except Chronicles and Complete are not available for PC. If you want me to rearrange the list like you suggested, I will, but I think we should remove the older, outdated versions.

Garrett (talkcontribs)

Ancient Land of Ys is the name used for the DOS version of the first game. Ys II Special is a South Korean remake. From what I've read the Eternal versions were initially sold separately and then updated for the Complete compilation where they were sold together. I don't know enough about the differences between Complete and Chronicles+. I'm not familiar with the Ys series so all of this is based on the existence of PC version retail boxes and so forth.

As for outdated versions, currently the wiki lists every sufficiently distinct version of a game (typically where fixes for one version don't work for the other etc.), including cases where the newer version expands on the same content (as with Age of Empires II vs. Age of Empires II HD), with the exception of cases where the enhanced version acts as a patch or paid upgrade for the previous version (e.g. the Witcher series' Enhanced and Director's Cut patches); the older Ys versions would therefore have distinct wiki pages where appropriate even though the newer versions have new graphics and extra content and so forth.

I don't think the wiki's conventions in this regard have been documented anywhere yet and of course some of that will depend on contributors' assessment of how separate the versions are.
