Disks are one hell of a wild ride, because on top of the original xbox hassles you have special firmwares, drives, security sectors, layer breaks, AP, SSv3, LT, flagging, XGD3 and whatever.

But it can be done. The golden standard is drives that supports either Kreon's firmware or 0800 (take note certain older southbridges may not be compatible)

Otherwise you still may have some chances with hardware modding any other drive (in a somewhat similar hotswapping fashion than what it's done for dreamcast), thanks to wxRipper DiscImageCreator. Though "archive quality" may be compromised then.

So.. in the mass effect 2 page I'm recommending copy pasted the Modio suggestion for transfers. But surely after a decade there are better tools?

Putting aside that I'm not sure to what extent this could apply to all/latest games (in which case, I guess hacks are needed) ModioX and Horizon seems the modern solutions I could find. Maybe. Haven't tested.
