I'm trying to make it a bit more concise. Is what I wrote correct? Letterboxed on aspect ratios smaller than 16:9. Use a lower ratio instead.

Marioysikax (talkcontribs)

Smaller could mean either way in my mind at least, wider and narrower makes more sense.

Main problem is that some 16:9 aspect ratios are for some reason letterboxed as well, like popular laptop resolution 1366x768 and 1600x900. Those shouldn't be letterboxed, but game decides to letterbox them anyway, so there may be some up/downscaling happening after all or game is just randomly choosing when to letterbox. Either way I'm sure many laptop users may prefer to play with 1280x720 instead of native resolution at that point to be able to fill the screen properly.

RaTcHeT302 (talkcontribs)

I'm not really sure how to word it right now, from what you wrote there that's what I thought you said. I'll just leave this for later on, it's not too important. My TV has 1366x768 on a VGA (it goes up to 1080p on my HDMI, but it looks like ass), I never thought of it as a standard laptop resolution.

Marioysikax (talkcontribs)

Well, both laptop and HD Ready TV models, 26.28% steam users use that resolution so was it laptop or HD Ready TV, that resolution problem should be noted.

At least to me it seems like laptops are stuck with that resolution where with TVs it's now only used on cheaper and smaller models where it's also less visible. That resolution on TV suck really bad though, especially with consoles which can only output either 720p or 1080p and nothing in between so both options look bad.

I have made a preliminary fix for this issue with the standard method but I don't have this game to check the result; could you try it? If it works I'll upload it to the wiki as usual.

Marioysikax (talkcontribs)

It didn't work at first but I had some compatibility modes in place, took those out and it started working perfectly! Even if replay.exe is renamed as launcher.exe.

Alt-tab to fix HFR stopped working but forcing highest possible frame rate from Nvidia control panel fixed that. I'll update article from that part.

Thanks for the edits. Sonic Adventure is one of my favorite childhood games.

My concern though is that there may be 3 artcles for the same game with the current set up, and perhaps the Sep 15, 2014 patch will be on GamersGate and other non-Steam digital distribution services... I dunno, it just makes me feel iffy. Whatever though

I've never played the PC version, I bought the Steam version today in hopes of it being decent. I also hope it'll have 16:9.

Marioysikax (talkcontribs)

Yeah, it's definitly irritating they decided to make update for Steam version only, leaving those who bought DRM-Free or retail version in to the shadows. Luckily steam version isn't that expensive when on sale, but some people may not want to buy same game twice. And because they have fixed so much stuff in Steam version it means it requires article update but it would be selfish to update article to just refer to Steam version when many people have other versions which will need those fixes provided with PCGW.

If they decide to release patch file then we'll simply merge those articles, shouldn't take more than two seconds. At least Space Channel 5 is now playable out of the box with 144Hz display without speedup :P

Hey, random question, do you know what else the PC versions are missing from the GameCube version besides the GameGear games? I think we should clarify that...

Marioysikax (talkcontribs)

Actually no idea. That edit was done by someone else previously, quick googling says they removed some features (internet) and added other ones (GBA link) in gamecube version but didn't find any complete list or anything that would say what is in PC version. I only got into dreamcast and sonic games after getting into PC gaming anyway which is kinda ironic when I played with consoles before that.

EDIT: I didn't realize that they updated the 2003 version of Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, which is the one I had and remember having the GameGear games. Please ignore this.
