Issues unresolved

Startup

Game frequently will not launch from Steam Launcher for a large number of players. No known work-around other than to continue clicking Play repeatedly until game starts.^[5]

Impossible to disable aim assistance

Game supports three different levels of aim assistance when playing with a controller: High, Low and Off. High and Low work as intended (high snaps towards the nearest target, low slows down crosshairs when near an enemy), but Off behaves exactly the same as Low. This also happens on consoles.^[6]

Issues fixed

Run the game at screen refresh rate in fullscreen

The Game ignores Windows settings and forces 60 Hz while in fullscreen as long as it's supported by your monitor.^[7]

Run at default monitor refresh rate with this Mafia III ReShade custom build

Download ReShade Mafia III fixes (dxgi.dll)
Copy the file to the installation folder

When going fullscreen, the game will run at whatever refresh rate you currently have by default

This supports anything ReShade supports

Override refresh rate with 3Dmigoto^[8]

Download 3Dmigoto
Copy the files in the x64 folder to the installation folder
Open d3dx.ini
Change ;refresh_rate=60 to the desired value, and remove the semicolon (e.g. refresh_rate=144)
Change hunting=1 to ;hunting=1 by adding a semicolon
Save the changes and close the file

It can be setup to use ReShade as a proxy

Override refresh rate with Special K^[8]
It often crashes on startup, alt-tab and alt-enter^[9] It's convoluted to setup if also using ReShade

Remove support for 60Hz on your monitor
Download CRU and delete all other resolutions except the one with the refresh rate you want to play at

Force borderless windows

Random crashes

Change the frame rate cap^{[citation needed]}
Change the frame rate cap from Unlimited to 30 or 60 FPS

Failure to launch: vcruntime140.dll missing

Install Visual C++ Redistributable^{[citation needed]}

Blur and orange tint removal

The game has a strong orange tint and a blurring filter applied to it, this mod removes both^[10]
Install Reshade (select DirectX 11 and make sure you download the standard shaders) Apply this Reshade Preset

Anti-aliasing
Changing anti-aliasing setting to Low reduces blurring

Controller sensitivity too high

Reduce mouse sensitivity^[11]
Reduce both the controller and mouse sensitivity under Options -> Controls in the Pause menu.

Disable the Steam overlay^[12]
Right-click the game in your Steam library. Click Properties. Un-tick Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game. Click the Close button.
