Issues fixed
Game crashes on startup
- In order for the game to play music, the Windows Media Source Filter must be re-installed on newer versions of Windows
Install the Windows Media Source Filter codec[2]
|
Automatic Installation
- Download the music fix: DirectShow - Windows Media Source Filter - Fix v1.5
- Extract the contents from the
.zip file you just downloaded into a folder
- Right-click the
ApplyPatch.bat and run it as administrator
- Launch the game and uncheck the "No Music" box to enable music
Notes
- If the text in the console window is red, then the patch failed copying a
.dll file or registering dxmasf.dll
- Your anti-virus might stop the file from executing, either turn it off, or put it into a passive mode
|
Install and register the Windows Media Source Filter codec[3]
|
Manual Installation
- Download the music fix: DirectShow - Windows Media Source Filter Fix v1.5
- Extract the contents from the
.zip file you just downloaded
- Take ownership of the
dxmasf.dll file in C:\Windows\SysWOW64 by changing the file permissions in the "Security" tab
- Delete the
dxmasf.dll
- Copy
drmclien.dll , strmdll.dll and dxmasf.dll from the .zip file to C:\Windows\SysWOW64
- Register
dxmasf.dll with the DirectShow Filter Manager; DSFMgr.exe
- Music can be enabled in the "Configuration" menu before clicking "Play" to launch the game
Notes
- This modification does not affect Windows Media Player file playback adversely
|
Alternative Fixes & Workarounds
Game Crashes on startup/randomly
Disable music in the game launcher[4]
|
- Launch Monopoly Tycoon
- Go to "Configuration".
- Tick the "No Music" box.
- Click "Play"
Notes
- This does not provide a fix for the music and is only a workaround
|
Issues unresolved
Music skipping/looping issues on Windows 2000 and later
- Disabling audio hardware acceleration in Windows XP makes the game's music choppy and intermittent
- The music tracks in the background skip/stutter randomly
- Sometimes the music cuts out suddenly and the game is left with only sounds, even when hardware acceleration is enabled.
