Essential improvements

Patches

Patch 1.0.2 (Mac OS) is a very important patch, fixing a crash issue in the single player mode in the third level.
No patches have been released for the Windows version.

Playing on modern systems

The following installer should get around an issue related to the game not installing on 64-bit operating systems.
Installing the game[1]
  1. Insert the Future Cop: LAPD installation disc, then download this installer and run it.
  2. Select the desired rendering method. For 3DFX download and install nGlide.

Notes

Don't forget to run FCopLAPD.exe as an admin.
The Software rendering mode appears to be most stable and compatible of all three.
The 3DFX mode will fail to render some of the laser obstacles, they should be fairly easy to detect and avoid.
Windows 10 support (DirectX)
  1. Insert the Future Cop: LAPD installation disc, then download this installer and run it.
  2. Use all defaults during the installation, except when choosing components to install. Select the "DirectX Rendering" component.
  3. Download DgVoodoo_2 version 2.52 and copy the DDraw.dll and D3DImm.dll files to the Future Cop installation folder
  4. Set the game exe's compatibility mode to "Windows 98 / ME" mode
  5. Run the game!

Notes

As of 2019-12, the version of dgVoodoo used must be 2.52. Earlier versions will not work, later versions will corrupt the game menu
Game will be playable, but videos will play as a black screen with sound
Be sure to edit your controller config in controls.txt
Windows 10 support (3DFX)[2]
  1. Insert the Future Cop: LAPD installation disc, then download this installer and run it.
  2. Use the default native resolution output, don't change something during the install
  3. Download DgVoodoo_2 and install 3DFX dgVoodoo2 DLLs to the Future Cop folder
  4. Set the game exe to "Windows 98 / ME" mode and "Admin" by default
  5. Set the game exe to "16-bit (65536) color" mode
  6. Run the game!

Notes

Not compatible with the French CD release, only English release is supported
Game will be playable, but videos may play as a black screen with sound
Be sure to edit your controller config in controls.txt
