Key points

Online multiplayer no longer works due to GameSpy services being shut down.
CD/DVD version is bundled with outdated AOL 9.0 client. This can be resolved by just not installing it.
Game comes with stable configuration manager to help it run on newer systems.

Editing The Game

All files must have the same name as the original file in order to work. You cannot specify new file names due to the files being hardcoded.
Editing Highscore[citation needed]
  1. Go to the Road Wars folder and go to the Tracks folder.
  2. A User.txt file will be located in there.
  3. You can edit [BEST LAP] and [BEST TIME] settings to your choosing.
Track editing is limited, but if you know how to configure .txt files, you can set certain highscores on whichever track you race on.
Editing Tracks[citation needed]
  1. Go to the Road Wars folder and go to the Tracks Folder
  2. A World folder will be located in there.
  3. Navigate inside the World folder
  4. Click on Data.txt
  5. You can edit the [DATA], [OUTPUT], [AI], and [CD MUSIC] sub-sections.
Editing Cars[citation needed]
  1. Go to the Road Wars folder and go to the Cars Folder
  2. All cars currently in the game should be listed.
  • Clicking on the folder will give you a series of folders that contain .msh or .inis to choose from.
Adding custom sounds into the game[citation needed]
  1. Go to the Road Wars folder and go to the Sfx Folder
  2. All sounds that are in the game will be listed here.
  • By clicking on a sound you should recognize where it is located in the game.
    • Example: Sound1.wav is the select sound for the main menu. You can add ANY sound file that has an extension .wav to change it.
