Key points
- Requires adapter to connect to PC.
- Lacks native XInput support, requiring the use of a XInput wrapper (see XInput wrappers) for games that do not support DirectInput or the controller natively.
- Unlike the Sega Saturn Controller (and Mega Drive) there are no 𝐂 and 𝐙 buttons, and the controller has moved past the need for a switch to toggle between analogue and digital modes, seen on the 3D Control Pad.
Inputs
- 1 × analog stick
- 2 × analog triggers: 𝐋, 𝐑
- 5 × digital buttons: 𝐀, 𝐁, 𝐗, 𝗬, sᴛᴀʀᴛ
- 4 × digital directional buttons (d-pad): ↑, ↓, ←, →
Controller variations

Connection method | |
Wired adapter |
Dreamcast ASCII Pad FT
- Removes the analog stick and shoulder triggers, but adds 2 extra face buttons and a controller-end switch to turn rumble on/off.
- Notably keeps the slot for the VMU.
Use with PC platforms
Windows
XInput wrapping
- Being a DirectInput controller, it's possible to use any of the generic wrappers. See the controller article for those.
Hardware
Adapters
Mayflash Dreamcast Adapter

- Two players can play simultaneously.
- No extra power supply required.
Bliss-Box Gamer-Pro
- Directly compatible with PC. No driver needed, just plug and play.
- Allows to configure and test haptic feedback and communication.
- Allows to rebind buttons.

Expansions
Jump Pack
- Known as the Vibration Pack in Europe and the Puru Puru Pack (ぷるぷるパック) in Japan) is a insertable accessory for the Dreamcast controller's expansion ports. When placed in the controller, it allow compatible games to give force feedback to the controller.

Dreamcast Microphone
- Known as the Dreamcast Mic Device (ドリームキャスト マイクデバイス) in Japan, is a microphone peripheral for the Sega Dreamcast. Taking up a VMU slot, the microphone was developed for use with Seaman, though became compatible with other games during late 2000 and 2001. Alien Front Online used it for voice chat.
- See the list of compatible games for Dreamcast emulator
Support in games
- Support for some controller features may be only available on certain systems. Refer to game-specific articles for details.
Games with microphone support
- Microphone support requires Dreamcast Microphone extension.
- Games with implemented voice chat should be able to use controller's microphone. There is no software which supports Dreamcast Microphone for PC yet.
- VoiceBot and VoiceAttack allows to control games and applications by voice commands.
- Dreamcast games support Dreamcast Microphone peripheral. See more.
- List of Microphone-controllerd computer games.
Games with XInput button prompts
- List of games with Xbox button prompts (Although face button letter positions are the same, games that require a right stick or 4 shoulder buttons could cause gameplay problems.)
- Some may require use of Xbox 360 controller emulation. Refer to game-specific articles for details.
