The HORI Zero Tech is a specialized game controller released by Hori on December 4, 1997.

Unlike the traditional game controller, the Zero Tech is shaped like a pistol-grip-type R/C remote controller. The small, analog steering wheel is used for steering, while the 2 analog triggers were used for acceleration and braking. There's also the traditional buttons and a steering angle slider on the top back section of the controller.

The original Zero Tech, released for the PlayStation, is designed to be emulate as a NeGcon on the console. A version of the Zero Tech made for Sega Saturn, the Zero Tech SS, was released on April 9, 1998, and is similar to the orignal model hardware-wise.

The successor to the original Zero Tech, the Zero Tech 2 for PlayStation 2, was released on February 26, 2004. Unlike the Zero Tech which emulate as a NeGcon, the Zero Tech 2 is emulate as a DualShock 2. The Zero Tech 2 also has a single rumble motor for vibration. There was a plan to release a successor to the Zero Tech 2, but it was later scrapped.

All Zero Tech controllers requires third-party adapter to be able to connect to the PC, as they have proprietary connectors (PlayStation controller port on Zero Tech and Zero Tech 2, Saturn port on Zero Tech SS). Depending on what adapter used, it can be shows as either a DirectInput device or a XInput device. Do note that the Zero Tech 2 doesn't have pressure-sensitive buttons outside of its steering wheel and triggers.

The Zero Tech SS is a Saturn-compatible model and is based on the original Zero Tech.

When the controller show up as a DirectInput device, it may requires button remapping in Steam via Steam Input to be able to use.

Steam Link compatibility

Works natively over some proprietary-to-USB adapters.
Buttons are mapped incorrectly and must be remapped manually.
Works without any drivers on any operating system that supports Steam.
