Nintendo was founded Nintendo Karuta on September 23, 1889, and had been renamed Yamauchi Nintendo (1889–1933), Yamauchi Nintendo & Co. (1933–1947), Marufuku Co., Ltd. (1947–1951) and Nintendo Playing Card Co. Ltd. (1951–1963) before renamed to the current corporate name. Nintendo enter the video game market in 1980, with the Game & Watch handheld and the Nintendo Entertainment System console.

Unlike other console manufacturers Sony (via Sony Interactive Entertainment) and Microsoft, Nintendo rarely publishing games on PC even today.
