Download links not allowed?

I am relatively new to this wiki, and am therefore not very qualified at how things are done around here. This is why I am quite confused about how the download links were removed from this article. The thing is, that Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is a very old game that isn't very easily approachable by new or returning players.

Installing the game through official means requires the person to download and install:

1. The original installer
2. Patch 2.60
3. Patch 2.60b
4. Any maps or mods the player wishes to play (though most of these can be downloaded from servers when connecting)

This may not seem like much, but none of the downloads are hosted on the official site (they are only linked to), and many people only download the original installer without concerning themselves with the rest. That, and many people download ET from any of the hundreds of sites that host the original installer but not the patches. Keep in mind this is an online-only game, and thus isn't very playable in its unpatched form.

Which is why, initially, when I wrote most of this article, along with the official download link, I added a custom download link (embraced by the game community) that simplifies the installation procedure down just to one installer and customizable choices regarding maps, mods and settings.

So I am asking, is it not allowed to have download links for the games in the articles? It is a free game, and I see no harm in helping new or returning players with their ET endeavors. This site is dedicated to helping people out with problems related to the game in question, is it not? I do think downloading and installing ET is one of the biggest problems people may run into with the game.

Hi Bradur, thank you very much for making such a huge contribution to the wiki, it is very much appreciated.

I can see that the links were taken off. They appear to be a very valuable resource for the community. Please feel free to reinstate them.

We are in a great deal of discussion at the moment to mirror rare files and to prevent 'link rot'. There are a few files listed on the page PCGamingWiki:Files and we are also discussions on [1], [2] and on our Forum about the best option going forward.

Thanks for the info! I'm going to read up on those threads. Love the site so far :).

I went back and looked at how you presented the links you posted. I think maybe the way you posted the links could've appeared like you were offering links to a cracked game. I looked the game up and I now know this isn't the case, but that might've been the thought process behind removing them. I'll go ahead and add them back in.

Thank you for the fast reply, and thank you for reintroducing the links. I was hoping it was just a slight misunderstanding :).
