ILLUSION is a Japanese adult video game brand and developer owned by Ione-Plus Co. Ltd. (formerly Ione Co. Ltd.).
ILLUSION was created in 1992 as one of the adult-orientated brands under Heart Electronics Industry Co., Ltd., but part of the company was later spun off and became Ione Co. Ltd. in 1996 and inherited the ILLUSION brand. In 2009, ILLUSION was later involved in an international controversy surrounding the violent imagery in the game RapeLay, despite the company not selling the game outside of Japan legally. This led to other Japanese adult game publishers to prevents foreign visitors from visiting their websites.
It would be years before ILLUSION start localize and publish their games outside of Japan in 2018, starting with Honey Select in collaborate with the adult website FAKKU. ILLUSION have also publishes their games on their own on Steam, though with the adult contents removed and can be only restored with official patches downloaded from ILLUSION's site.
On July 14, 2023, Ione-Plus announced that it will exit from the adult video game market and deprecate the ILLUSION brand on August 18, 2023, with all ILLUSION games to be delisted from all storefronts on the same day. However, as of December 2, 2023, technical issues had prevented their games from being delisted on Steam.
