L.A. Noire Box Art

L.A. Noire is a 2011 neo noir crime video game developed by Team Bondi and published by Rockstar Games. It was released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. The game draws heavily from both the plot and aesthetic elements of film noir, stylistic films made popular in the 1940s and 1950s that share similar visual styles and themes including crime, sex, and moral ambiguity. The game uses a distinctive colouring-style, but in homage to film noir it includes the option to play the game in black-and-white. Various plot elements reference the major themes of gum-shoe detective and mobster stories such as Key Largo, Chinatown, The Untouchables, The Black Dahlia, and L.A. Confidential.

Troubleshooting

Slowdown, lag, or frame-rate issues

• Run the LANLauncher.exe.
• Click Options
• Enter "-str" and/or "-npd" and/or "+jobs_numThreads 0" (without quotes, just the dash and the text with a space in between each command) in the command line field for single threaded renderer, which may improve performance or compatibility on some systems.

Endless launcher loop/crash after re-performing setup

In Windows Vista/7, it may be necessary to turn off UAC (User Account Control) and/or run Steam as an Admin.

Turn off UAC

• Open Control Panel
• Select User Accounts
• Select 'Change User Account Control Settings'
• Change the slider to Never Notify

Run Steam as an Administrator

• Locate the Steam Shortcut on your desktop or within your start menu.
• Right Click on the shortcut and select 'Run as Administrator'

• Close down Steam.
• Open the directory where steam is installed. (Default directory - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe)
• Open 'Steamapps > common > l.a.noire'
• Delete the file labelled 'Cases'
• Re-launch steam
• Select 'Library' and right click on 'L.A. Noire: The Complete Edition'
• Select Properties' followed by the 'Local Files' tab.
• Select 'Verify Integrity of Game Cache...'
• Once verifying has finished, run 'Defragment Cache Files'
• After defragmenting is complete, also defragment your hard drive.
• Then run the game.
• Also ensure that your C++, .NET, and DirectX packages are updated:

If the Main Menu still does not appear:

• Try launching L.A. Noire from the main "LANoire.exe" rather than "LANLauncher."
• Make sure the game is booting to a native resolution by changing the settings in the launcher Options.
• Try adding "-windowed" into the command line field in the options menu of the launcher.
• Right click on Steam and Run as Admin, then once Steam is open run "LANoire.exe."
• Run the game in a simple resolution such as 256 color and 640 resolution
• Run both the LANLauncher and the LANoire.exe in compatibility mode for a different version of Windows by right-clicking the files and choosing properties, then compatibility. Also put a checkmark in the "Run as Admin" boxes.
• If you are running dual monitors or an unconventional display setup, try running using only one monitor.

Error Patching: Error binary patching file

• Navigate to C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\L.A. Noire
• Remove any file with a .patched extension
• Remove Social Club v1.0.5.0 Setup.exe
• Run Patch_2382_02393_1.exe
• Press Update
• Start Game via launcher
• If the same thing happens, uninstall and re-install the full game and attempt to patch. If the same problem happens, repeat steps 1-6 above after consulting the tips below.

Command List

To use them, input the command line parameters directly into the Command Line field of the launcher. To access this, launch the game using LANLauncher and then access the Options menu.

-nosound	Disable all sound.
-L	Change the language - use English, French, German, Italian or Spanish. E.g -L french
-joysticktype	Force a specific directinput controller type. Can be used to try different controller button layouts if your controller isn't specifically supported.
