Age of Empires Online is a free to play strategy game from Robot Entertainment and Gas Powered Games. It succeeds from titles such as Age of Empires III (2005) although the art style and gameplay are fairly different. This game requires a constant internet connection, and will immediately disconnect and kick the player from the game if there is a break in connection, even if playing a single-player mission.

Issues And Fixes

Crash On Load

For some players, the games can crash back to desktop near the end of the leading screen. The issue appears to be something to do with graphics though exactly what is unknown (at least to me at time of writing). The fix for this is to Alt+Tab to desktop whilst the the game loads. The game should remain minimised until the game progress to the main menu (you will typically hear the background music when it progresses). Alt+Tab back to the game to continue.

Serial Key

This is actually a Games for Windows Live issue rather than an Age of Empires Online problem. To resolve, you need to log in to your Live account on the Xbox website and accept the new licence agreement. With this, the next time you log into Age of Empires Online, it should not ask you for the Serial Key and log straight in.
