It is the third game in the Jedi Knight series, not counting the expansion Mysteries of the Sith. It was preceded by Star Wars: Dark Forces and Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, and succeeded by Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.

The digital releases do not include a manual; you can download one from ReplacementDocs.

The game's promotional website included a page called N.R.I. Reports. This page contained backstory information written from an in-universe perspective. The full contents of the page were included in the retail version's README file.

Official patch

The official patch 1.04 can be downloaded from LucasArts for the PC version, or from Aspyr for the Mac version (patch currently in beta).

It is included in the Steam and Mac App Store versions, and is required in order to run the Mac version on modern Macs.

Demo and exclusive level

A demo was released for both PC and Mac. The Mac demo does not run on recent Macs; the retail game does, if you install the patch.

The demo features an exclusive level, "Mission at Alzoc III", that is not included in the PC version of the main game (it was included in the console versions as an unlockable).

Widescreen mode, custom resolutions

  1. Launch both the single-player and multiplayer executables at least once.
  2. Navigate to the
C:\Program Files (x86)\Star Wars Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast\GameData\base\

folder of your install directory.

  1. Open jk2config.cfg in a text editor.
  2. There should be a line
    seta r_mode "X"
where X is a number. If there is not, add it. Replace X with -1.
  3. There should be a line
    seta r_customwidth "X"
where X is a number. If there is not, add it. Replace X with the width of your desired resolution (for example, for 1680x1050 resolution, replace X with 1680).
  4. There should be a line
    seta r_customheight "X"
where X is a number. If there is not, add it. Replace X with the height of your desired resolution (for example, for 1680x1050 resolution, replace X with 1050).
  5. There should be a line
    seta cg_fov "X"
where X is a number. If there is not, add it. Replace X with your desired horizontal FOV (default is 80; try 90 for 16:10 resolutions, or 95 for 16:9).
  6. Repeat steps 3-7 with jk2mpconfig.cfg.

Note that running the game in widescreen mode will cause the HUD, menus and aiming crosshair to appear horizontally stretched. In addition, your arms may occasionally appear to be floating in midair when using the lightsaber or Force powers in first-person view.

Save file location

Save files are stored in the following folder in the install directory;

C:\Program Files (x86)\Star Wars Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast\GameData\base\saves\

They have .SAV extensions.
