Is it necessary to disable Use centered timings for this fix to work? For most cases unchecking GPU scaling makes the settings beneath it have no effect. I've partially rewritten the steps so each bit is numbered but I don't have the game to test this step.

Cawt (talkcontribs)

The steps are actually much clearer now, thanks!

As for GPU scaling, after taking a second look at it, centered timings disables scaling according to the ccc tooltip, so there is a bit of redundancy: scaling can be either on or off without noticeable effect. I'll edit the corresponding step accordingly.

Disabling scaling and choosing any of the other two settings will result in a distorted image however.

Fov changes in Dead Space

When you made the section on FOV changes in Dead Space, you didn't provide an instruction how to do it. Do you think you can add it?

Hey, I have an AMD 5870. If you have an nvidia chip, I'm afraid what I'm going to say will be of little use to you.

Adding a custom resolution proved to be a bit tricky on my AMD card. I tried via CCC but the results were not satisfactory. I had to use a small program named RCRM.exe that I found on the tomshardware forum. Even though it eventually worked, it caused a bluescreen. That is why I didn't go into more details in the article. That is also the reason why "custom resolution" was originally a red link, in the hopes that someone knowledgeable would write something on the topic...

I would advise caution if you plan to use rcrm.

Adding a custom resolution is fairly easy on nvidia hardware: it can be done in the driver settings from what I hear, but that is all I know.

Hope this helps, enjoy Dead Space!

Ok thanks, just wanted to know! I have a nvidia card btw, so I'll see if I can change it within the drivers. What custom res did you use (from 1080p)?

If my (totally wild) guess about how Dead Space handles the FOV is correct, 1920*817 should be fine on your monitor. I think the game determines the fov according to the aspect ratio. That is to say a 16:9 monitor should have a slightly higher FOV than a 16:10 display.

Oh, and just in case I'm completely wrong and everything looks stretched and weird: the HUD element that is used to display the locked/unlocked status of a door is supposed to be a circle.

On a side note: 1920/817 is 2.35, aka cinemascope :)

It was bugging me, and RCRM is a cool program so I retested it. Everything went fine: download link, instructions (it's quite simple really) and a quick word of caution are now on the game's page!
