Black screen or main menu not loading properly on startup

Force boot into a specific resolution[3]
  1. Open %APPDATA%\Worthless Bums\Steam Marines\common\commonConfig.xml
  2. Change <Resolution> and <FullScreen> values accordingly
  3. Save and close the file
Boot in Direct3D[3]
  1. Open <path-to-game>\Steam Marines\main.cs in a text editor
  2. Change the value of $ForceOpenGL to false
  3. Save and close the file
Update graphics card driver[3]
Windows 8.1 with older Radeon HD series graphics cards (e.g. 4000)[3]
