Hello. I did try launch it without Steam running and it did boot up and didn't start Steam. Maybe it got updated or I didn't test it the right way? Anyway if you confirmed then you can revert my edit. Sorry if I caused any trouble

So I tested again. If you run the game by directly launching the executable, and with Steam running, Steam will recognize it and show that you are playing the game. But if you do that without Steam running it will launch anyway and won't boot up Steam but it will crash after the developer logo. I thought it would run after the window appeared and assumed it was DRM-free. I'll revert my edit. Sorry again

I tried the game (and got refunded) and had the same experience.
