The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

From PCGamingWiki, the wiki about fixing PC games
Revision as of 02:26, 11 February 2012 by Deanb (talk | contribs)

Released for the PC on November 11, 2011, Skyrim is the fifth installment in Bethesda Game Studios' Elder Scrolls series. On February 1, 2012, the highly-anticipated Skyrim Workshop was released by Bethesda and Valve, once more allowing anyone to create customized mods and patches for the game.

Though the PC version of the game has received wide praise, the game is not without its (sometimes crippling) bugs. Fortunately, this is where playing the PC version has its advantages, allowing players to quickly implement fixes without having to wait for official releases from Bethesda.

Bugs

In the intrest to keeping the main Skyrim article concise, and not over burdened with in-game issues like quest bugs. Please look in the Skyrim(Bugs) article for these issues.

  1. General Crash Advice
    • First, verify whether the computer is stable.
    • For Steam versions, verify the integrity of the data files. Crashes and graphical corruption are often caused by disk corruption.

Official Updates

As of February 1, 2012, the latest update for the PC version is 1.4.

Mod Information

New and existing mods for Skyrim are being added and updated frequently. Nexus Mod Manager is an easy to use, free tool produced by NexusMods.com. Download any mods you want and manage, install, and uninstall with a one-click user friendly GUI. If any particular mod doesn't work correctly with your install, simply close the game, open Nexus Mod Manager again and deactivate the failing mod. Some mods do not work 100% with others and may cause the game to crash or not load at all. Also using Steam Workshop to get mods is highly recommended as you can choose any mod you want and next time you play Skyrim through Steam, it installs the chosen mods. As of 7th of February players got their hands on Creation Kit which is the same program Bethesda Softworks used to make The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. You can install Creation Kit by opening up your Steam program, selecting view from upper left corner and then choosing tools from the drop-down list. Double click Creation Kit when you have found it from the tools list.
