Digital Distribution

Origin is a digital distribution service created by EA in 2011, it has grown to over 9 million users. Considered by many to be in direct competition with Steam, EA has seen fit to remove some high profile games from Steam.

Activate retail/digital EA games on Origin

Many EA game product keys can be activated on Origin, whether bought at retail or from another digital distribution service. Once activated you can use Origin to download and patch the game.

If your product key still isn't accepted, or the game doesn't show up after activating it and restarting Origin, see Origin support.

Fix Origin Can't Connect To Internet/Can't Log In

If Origin cannot connect to the internet and won't let you log in, try opening the Command Prompt and running this command: netsh winsock reset

Enable Steam Overlay in Origin Games

To enable the Steam overlay, first you should disable the Origin overlay:

  1. In Origin click the gear symbol in the top right, settings
  2. Click the in game tab
  3. Uncheck the box next to "Enable Origin In Game"
  4. Click Done and exit Origin

Now, you will add a shortcut to Origin.exe in Steam.

  1. In Steam click "Add a Game" in the bottom left, then "Add a Non-Steam Game"
  2. Browse to your Origin.exe file (default is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin\Origin.exe")
  3. After selecting Origin.exe, select "Add Selected Programs"

There will now be a game in your Steam Library called Origin; you can change the name and icon by right clicking it and selecting Properties.

Start the Origin.exe shortcut in your Steam Library, and open the Origin game as you normally would. When you are in-game, you will have the Steam Overlay by pressing Shift+Tab (default). In order to stop showing up in-game on Steam, you have to close your browser and exit Origin.

(Note: this may not work for all Origin games).
