Service

GOG.com primarily sells classic PC games, although as of March 2012 they became committed to providing newer titles too. All GOG.com games are released in a single self-extracting installer and contain no DRM; an internet connection is only necessary to buy and download a game. There is no client, although an optional downloader is provided.

Downloader

GOG.com does not supply a client like Steam, but does provide an optional downloader. The downloader installs to your computer and downloads are added via your GOG.com shelf. The downloader also supports downloading extras.

Updates

Games are rarely updated on GOG.com, but when they are, the entire installer is re-compressed and published quietly, usually with no notification. The GOG.com Downloader will download and replace your old installers, provided they are contained in the same folder they downloaded to. You must manually add a game to the downloader and simply see if it downloads to determine if it has been updated.

While the vast majority of the available games on GOG.com is made for the reasonable prices of $5.99 and $9.99, as well as having weekend bundle sales, GOG.com has a small but reasonable amount of games that are available for free:

Newer multi-part Windows installers cannot be extracted with innounp or innoextract due to using password-protected RAR archives (.BIN).[5]
