GOG.com is a digital distribution platform, launched by CD Projekt RED in 2008, which is known for selling DRM-free games and older PC games that are made compatible with newer versions of Windows. This is done by games being pre-patched or bundled with Open Source emulation and compatibility software (e.g. ScummVM or DOSBox). All games sold have no DRM, extra material is often included with them (such as soundtracks and manuals) and full customer support is available. Promotions are also regularly organized.

Service
GOG.com primarily sells classic PC games, although as of March 2012 they became committed to providing newer titles too. All GOG.com games are released in a single self-extracting installer and contain no DRM; an internet connection is only necessary to buy and download a game. There is no client, although an optional downloader is provided.
Downloader
GOG.com does not supply a client like Steam, but does provide an optional downloader. The downloader installs to your computer and downloads are added via your GOG shelf. The downloader also supports downloading extras.
Updates
Games are rarely updated on GOG.com, but when they are, the entire installer is re-compressed and published quietly, usually with no notification. The GOG Downloader will download and replace your old installers, provided they are contained in the same folder they downloaded to. You must manually add a game to the downloader and simply see if it downloads to determine if it has been updated.
Free Games
While the vast majority of the available games on GOG is made for the reasonable prices of $5.99 and $9.99, as well as having weekend bundle sales, GOG has a small but reasonable amount of games that are available for free:
