Introduction

Motorhead is a racing game, developed by Digital Illusions CE (DICE) in 1998, and published by Gremlin Interactive in Europe & Latin America and Fox Interactive in North America. It is available for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation. It is a dark and moody arcade racing game, set in futuristic urban environments. The sports cars available for play are reminiscent of vehicles of the era, and also handle more realistically than most other arcade racers of the time. The lack of commentary audio was applauded by game critics as it enhanced the moody racing experience. The game engine had the ability to produce stunning visuals without the need for hardware accelerated graphics cards. DICE developed the engine from scratch, where it was also used in S40 Racing.

Issues And Fixes

Newer OS's frequently have problems with the game, but most can be fixed by running the game in Compatibility Mode and downloading the latest patches.

Stuttering on Nvidia Graphics cards

Stuttering can be fixed by enabling triple buffering and disabling v-sync.

-Download Nvidia Inspector here

-Create a new profile.

-Click "add application to current profile".

-Browse to where your "motor.exe" is located. Mark it and click OK. You have now connected this config to your Motorhead executive.

-Scroll down to the group called "Common" and click on Triple Buffering. Enable it.

-Click "Vertical sync" and choose "force off".

Unable to run with Direct 3D

If you can't start a race with the graphics set to Direct 3D you might need a separate 3Dfx-renderer.

-Download nGlide

-Install it like normal. The installation should be fairly quick. You should see a message saying something like "nGlide is now installed"

-Open Motorhead and go into the graphics settings

-Under "Renderer" at the top, select "3dFx Interactive Glide Driver". WARNING: only resolutions up to 1024x768 are available.

Patches

The latest 3.0 Patch fixes some compatibility issues and other bugs. It also adds a couple of new cars. It can be found here
