To fix a lot of the issues, you should install the v2.0 patch.

Issues and Fixes

Graphics issues with Nvidia/ATI cards:

Download the Metal Gear Solid 2 v2.0 MULTI5 No-DVD/GeForce/ATi Fixed EXE and extract it on your install folder.

Using an unsupported resolution

Follow the guide on Widescreengaming on how to use resolutions that are not available on the Setup application. Link here

Invisible Textures Glitch

One of the ways to fix this issue is to go to the Setup and set your Model Quality to 1/4 or 0/4.

Black-screen at startup

  • Once downloaded, install the program by running the .exe file.
  • Launch the program and press the 'Add' button. Enter the game title (Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance) and the game path

Using 360 Controller

There are issues with analogue inputs which requires the use of a custom Xpadder file.

  • Make sure all controls are at default values in MGS2.
  • Run 'Xpadder.exe', click the small icon of the controller in the top left and open 'My Controller (Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows).xpaddercontroller'
  • Click the picture of a little page with text just to the right of this and open 'mgs2.xpadderprofile'.
  • Load game with Xpadder running in background.

Unresolved Issues

Model shadows do not appear with certain graphics cards, to fix this set your pixel and vertex shader override to 1.0. On ATI cards this can be done with ATI Tray Tools, on Nvidia cards use RivaTuner.
