Getting the Game
Windows
On Windows, Half Life 2 is available through the Steam digital distribution platform. It is also available in disc format, however the user will still be required to then play it through Steam. It can be installed from disc, which replaces downloading the game from Steam (although the large post-install update negates any benefit of installing from disc).
Mac
Half-Life 2 is a SteamPlay title, and so is available on Mac as well as PC via Steam. You do not need to purchase the Mac version separately; logging into Steam on a Mac will show the Mac version of Half-Life 2 in the library. Save games created with a Mac version of Half-Life 2 will sync to Steam Cloud and can be used on the PC version.
Linux
Not Officially Supported. See Wine for more details.
More information on the game can be found at Combine OverWiki
Console Commands
Games running on the source engine can utilize Source Engine Console Commands for various tasks.
