Issues and Fixes

Mouse Lag/Acceleration

Some users report that the mouse feels laggy and looking around feels unnatural. Some have attributed this to an implementation of mouse acceleration, however Eidos developer Jimo has stated that there is "no mouse smoothing applied in DXHR".

The problem may simply be input lag which is usually related to V-Sync. Disabling V-Sync seems to fix input lag for most users.

Other users, under the impression that the game implemented mouse smoothing, seem to have found a registry setting that modifies mouse behavior and have had some success with editing it to fix mouse lag. Use these steps (listed below) to edit this specific registry setting (Be sure to back up your registry before making any changes):

  1. Navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Eidos\Deus Ex: HR"
  2. change the value of g_debugFreeLookSpeedScalingRatio_Pitch from 6e 00 00 00 to 00 00 00 00
  3. change the value of g_debugFreeLookSpeedScalingRatio_Yaw from 86 00 00 00 to 00 00 00 00
  4. re-adjust your mouse speed in game, no acceleration

Camera stuttering (stuttering while moving and looking around at the same time)

There are multiple solutions that people have reported works:

  • Change the ingame setting "fullscreen" to "no". If you hit alt+enter the game will go back to fullscreen, but the stuttering should be gone.
  • If this doesn't fix stuttering in fullscreen but does fix it in windowed mode for Windows 7 users, right-click 'dxhr.exe' and open up the Properties window, then navigate to the Compatibility tab and check 'disable visual themes' and 'disable desktop composition.' This could possibly fix stuttering in fullscreen.
  • Stuttering can also be reduced by turning off triple buffering in the game menu.
  • If you're playing in DX9 mode, you may try using Boris Vorontsov's ENBSeries SPEED IMPLANT.
  • The last possible solution would be to use DX11 mode (VSync enabled) and then go in to the registry.
  1. (Windows-key + R).
  2. Type in 'regedit' and hit enter.
  3. Navigate to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Eidos\Deus Ex: HR folder
  4. Set D3D11_CREATE_DEVICE_PREVENT_INTERNAL_THREADING_OPTIMIZATIONS to 1.

This has been confirmed to work for alot of people having this issue. Thanks to "onelifecrisis" over at Eidos forums for this solution.

Pre-rendered cutscene flickering

There is an issue that affects players using AMD Crossfire whereby pre-rendered cutscenes, e.g the opening scene, will flicker very visibly and be impossible to watch. To fix this, simply change the AMD Crossfire X mode for dehr.exe to "optimize 1x1" in the Catalyst Control center.

Tutorial Crash

If your game crashes when a tutorial pops up and only shows black, go into the game options and disable tutorials.

Game lags and audio stutters with FX-Bulldozer CPU

If you own an AMD Bulldozer CPU and the game is laggy (or the audio is stuttering), you can download and run a program called Orochi-Ceg that may fix the issue. It should be noted that this solution is temporary and that it may have already been fixed by your motherboard manufacturer. You are recommended to search for a BIOS update on their website for a permanent fix.

You should not, in any case, run this program if you have an Intel processor.

There are modified unofficial BIOSes that you can run that may also fix the issues. Use of these BIOSes are at your own discretion.

Save Games

32 bit:

C:\Program Files\Steam\userdata\<userID>\28050\remote

64 bit:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<userID>\28050\remote

<userID> is your numeric user ID on Steam unique to your account.

The file naming convention appears to be this: gameq = quicksave file (from hitting F5) gamea1 and gamea2 are the autosave files. Not sure yet if it alternates or if 2 is always the most recent gamer1, gamer2, etc are your regular save files.

Instructions

Debug Menu

The 'Debug Menu' mod allows you to manipulate the game (no health regen, infinite power, infinite ammo, AI options, UI options) and has a "Shop" feature, which lets you spawn yourself augmentations, money, weapons, weapon mods and other in-game items, as well as tons of debug options which you probably should leave alone.

ENB visual mod

Boris Vorontsov, the same who wrote the GTA:IV improve visuals, created a mod that changes the effects of lighting and smoke for improved visuals. This mod only runs in DX9 and will degrade performance. A gallery is available on his page for comparison.
