Key Points
- A poor port of the console game with few PC options.[1]
- Controller is highly recommended over keyboard and mouse controls.
- Recommended to use Durante's fix to increase rendering resolution.

Video Settings
Template:Video Settings
- No matter what resolution you set in the options, Dark Souls will run at 1280x720 (or 720p) and stretch to fit.
Modded at 1920x1080 resolution.
3D Support
- The game suffers from poor 3D support.
Input Settings
Template:Input Settings
- Key remapping is supported.
- A number of inconsistent keys by default:
- 'Q key' responds to on-screen prompt 'A to continue'.
- This is not inconsistent. The on-screen prompts only ever display the original Xbox controller keys, not keyboard controls.
- 'End key' brings up menu (and 'Escape key' does nothing).
- This is so your left hand can remain on WASD for movement, as bringing up the menu does not pause the game and may be done in combat. It's actually quite convenient for it to be on 'End' even if it doesn't feel as natural as 'Escape' at first.
- Mouse 4 and 5 cannot be remapped.[2]
- 'Hot swap' between keyboard and mouse controls and controller is available.[3]
- Use of controller is highly recommended.[4]
Controller Not Working
- Controller must be plugged in before the game starts.[5]
Network Settings
- Signing into Games For Windows Live (GFWL) is mandatory, and requires that network ports are opened or are forwarded.
Port forwarding must be enabled on:[6]
- TCP port 80.
- UDP and TCP port 3074.
- UDP port 88
- UDP and TCP port 53
- TCP port 443
