Download this and replace the file of the same name in the install directory.

Sound problems
Many people encounter problems with the sound in this game, it is pitched and/or too low.
There's no definite fix for these issues, but what usually helps is reducing the audio sample rate down to 44.1kHz. This isn't done in-game but in your system-wide audio settings: shown here. Testing different values for the audio latency (this time in the in-game menu) is also worth trying.
