Availability
Can often still be found on store shelves as "Age of Empires Collector's Editon", which contains the following games on one DVD-disk:
- Age of Empires
- Age of Empires: The Rise of Rome
- Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings
- Age of Empires II: The Conquerors
Due to faulty file management on the DVD-disk, problems can be encountered.

Technical issues
Music
While playing Age of Empires (including its Expansion) the games freezes for a second every time the background music track changes. Disabling the music via settings or command line is the only solution.
Furthermore, the MIDI music system may crash the game if you run it within compatibility mode. Since this game doesn't require compatibility mode, that should not be enabled in the first place.
Command line
The readme.doc contains a list of command line options, including options to set the screen size, use the default mouse cursor, disabling sounds, disabling music, or to adjust the population limit.
Ingame color looks odd
For solution see: Colors Fixes
Latest Patches
For Age Empires: 1.0c
For Age of Empires: Rise of Rome: 1.0a
Note: Age of Empires: Rise of Rome 1.0a suffers from a serious savegame related bug: If a projectile (arrow from archers, ships, towers, siege weapons) is "flying" through the air while saving a game, the savegame becomes corrupted. Loading the savegame will crash the game.
