Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer is a 2002 surfing game. It was developed by Treyarch, published by Activision under the Activision O2 brand, and ported to PC by Bennox and Mac in 2003 by Aspyr Media.
Installing on Windows Vista/Windows 7
If you get a "The operating system is not adequate" error when installing this game on Windows Vista or Windows 7, perform the following steps:
- Download and install the SuperOrca MSI editor.
- Copy the entire contents of the install disc to a folder on your computer.
- Open that folder, and rename "Kelly Slater’s Pro Surfer(tm).msi" to "Kelly Slater’s Pro Surfer(tm).old.msi".
- Right click on that file, click Properties, and uncheck Read-Only.
- Open that file in SuperOrca.
- Scroll down the list on the left. There should be an item labeled LaunchCondition. Click it.
- A single row should appear in the main table screen on the right. Click it and press Delete to delete it. Then, save the file as "Kelly Slater’s Pro Surfer(tm).msi".
- Double click the copy of setup.exe that you made in step 2, and install the game.
- You can now delete the copies you made in step 2.
1280x1024 resolution issue
The highest resolution supported by the game is 1280x1024. However, unlike all other resolutions the game supports, 1280x1024 is a 5:4 aspect ratio rather than 4:3, and the game does not adjust in any way to account for that.
This means that, unless you have a monitor that can display a 1280x1024 picture at a 4:3 aspect ratio, the image will appear slightly squished horizontally. If you have a 4:3 monitor, it will also result in black bars on the side of the screen; if you have a widescreen monitor, it will result in larger black bars than normal. Therefore, it is recommended that you run the game in its next-highest supported resolution, 1024x768.
Mac patch
One patch (1.0.1) was released for the Mac version of the game. It fixes the following issues:
- Added verification of available VRAM for anti-aliasing use.
- Fixed white texture problem under Panther (Mac OS 10.3).
- Fixed a crash on startup when multiple volumes are mounted.
- Fixed detection of supported resolution/anti-aliasing combinations.
