Burnout Paradise may crash on start-up if you have screen recording software running at the time, such as Xsplit. This occurs because the game sees the software as a webcam. The easiest way to rectify this issue is: close the screen recording software, load Burnout Paradise, Alt + Tab out, then run the screen recording software. If this is not effective, you may need to uninstall the screen recording software entirely.

The game may also crash if you run the game on Windows 7.  To fix this, set the game's .exe to Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode, or if that doesn't work, Windows Vista SP2 compatibility.  Setting the anti-aliasing in the game's configuration program to 2X may also help.

Issues and Fixes

Game Crashes on Start-up

Burnout Paradise may crash on start-up if you have screen recording software running at the time, such as Xsplit. This occurs because the game sees the software as a webcam. The easiest way to rectify this issue is: close the screen recording software, load Burnout Paradise, Alt + Tab out, then run the screen recording software. If this is not effective, you may need to uninstall the screen recording software entirely.

Users with the CL Eye Driver instaled (to enable support for the PlayStation Eye Camera as a webcam) will encounter crashes when loading Burnout Paradise. Currently, the only solution is to uninstall the CL Eye Driver entirely. You may encounter further problems even after doing so; it is most likely not your fault. This game is a low-quality PC port, so you may have to do trial and error by closing certain Windows Services in the Task Manager, then running Burnout Paradise.

Windows 7 users have reported crashing when attempting to run the game. To rectify this, set the game to run in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode, or Windows Vista SP2 mode. It may also help to reduce, or entirely disable, Anti-Aliasing in the game's launcher.

As a last resort, the game may be fixable by following the steps demonstrated in this YouTube video. This should be effective even if you have screen recording software installed.

How to go Online

Anyone who has played this game knows that the online is completely broken for most. Here is a step by step guide about how I fixed it.

  1. First you must try to connect online (this should fail but if it doesn't ignore the rest of guide)
  2. After it fails go to the same screen but instead of entering your account info again click "create new account"
  3. Here you will want to enter the same information for the account you are trying to log in with (like the same username and email)
  4. Once you have done that try to create a new account
  5. If you entered everything correctly it should say something along the lines of "account already exists"
  6. From here reboot the game and try again with the same account info you used in the create account page, you should now be able to log on and to play online.
  • (The reason I believe this works is because the burnout servers are not updated and this forces them to update with your account info)

"The product key you are using is invalid"

Upon attempting to log into an EA/Origin account in order to play the game online, some users encounter the error "The product key you are using is invalid". This occurs if you are using a retail version of the game which you have registered online via Origin/EA Download Manager. The game recognizes that your CD key is already in use (on Origin), and thinks it is invalid.

The only solution to this issue is to download and reinstall the game via Origin.

DLC

The DLC servers have been shut down, there is therefore no legal way to obtain the DLC. However, a patch to unlock all vehicles can be found online (this includes DLC vehicles that are locked).
