Issues fixed

Game crashes upon starting up in Windows 7 - "RGSS player stopped working"

Upon starting the game, the game's window will appear but then Windows 7 displays a message that says "RGSS player stopped working". This is caused by a feature in Windows 7 called DEP, or Data Execution Prevention. The game can be played just fine once "To the Moon.exe" has been added to the DEP exceptions list.

To change your DEP settings:

  1. Right click on the Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties.
  2. The System window opens now. In the left pane, Click the Advanced system settings link.
  3. The System Properties window opens now. Under the "Advanced" tab, under the "Performance" section, click the "Settings..." button.
  4. The Performance Options dialog box opens now. Select Data Execution Prevention tab, then select "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select" option. Click the "Add..." button.
  5. Find and select "To the Moon.exe". If you have a Steam installation of the game, "To the Moon.exe" should be in the folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\To the Moon\To the Moon.
  6. Click "Apply" then "OK" to confirm your changes. Relaunch the game and it should open without issue this time.

"To the Moon.exe" may also get flagged as a virus by your antivirus application. This is a false positive. Allow the game to play and you should be fine.
