To the Moon
Issues and Fixes
Game crashes upon starting up in Windows 7 - "RGSS player stopped working"
Upon starting the game, the game's window will appear but then Windows 7 displays a message that says "RGSS player stopped working". This is caused by a feature in Windows 7 called DEP, or Data Execution Prevention. The game can be played just fine once "To the Moon.exe" has been added to the DEP exceptions list.
To change your DEP settings:
- Right click on the Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties.
- The System window opens now. In the left pane, Click the Advanced system settings link.
- The System Properties window opens now. Under the "Advanced" tab, under the "Performance" section, click the "Settings..." button.
- The Performance Options dialog box opens now. Select Data Execution Prevention tab, then select "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select" option. Click the "Add..." button.
- Find and select "To the Moon.exe". If you have a Steam installation of the game, "To the Moon.exe" should be in the folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\To the Moon\To the Moon.
- Click "Apply" then "OK" to confirm your changes. Relaunch the game and it should open without issue this time.
"To the Moon.exe" may also get flagged as a virus by your antivirus application. This is a false positive. Allow the game to play and you should be fine.
