Custom Resolution Support

RomTerraria 2.0 is a launcher and trainer that provides support for widescreen/custom resolutions, plus many other features such as adding a local minimap, world map, cheat options, embed real-time clock, and more.

Mac Compatibility

Mac Wrapper

Using the Mac Wrapper posted on the official Terraria forums by user espes, you can play Terraria on a Mac.

Linux

Terraria is not officially released on Linux, however an unofficial MonoGame port can be used to play the game natively. Alternatively, the game works under Wine with some tweaking.

Issues and Fixes

Game running slowly/low framerate

This usually happens when the game is running on an older PC. Check if you have frame skip enabled and change the Lighting to "Retro" in the setting menu. This should increase performance.

Game will not start

You are most likely missing required components. Download and install the following which contain the files Terraria is missing and the game should now work.

German version

The German (Steam) version of Terraria has currently lots of bugs and crashes (for example social slot items), the only fix is to set the language to English.

Teleporting mob lag in multiplayer

This can happen even on high-end systems, real cause is unknown but is fixed by limiting the fps to 30. Terraria forums have a working fix for this that does things automatically.

Extra step for the steam version:

  1. Navigate to your terraria directory
  2. Create a new text file called steam_appid.txt (NOTE: Make sure the file is called steam_appid.txt, NOT steam_appid.txt.txt)
  3. Open it and paste the appid: 105600 for terraria inside
  4. Save and your fix will work
