Issues and Fixes

Cutscenes

When a cutscene starts. the game seems to be frozen. It is noticeable upon starting a new game, when a black screen appears with the writing "Marco's Bistro, Liberty city, 1986".

To fix this issue, navigate to the folder where the game is installed.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Vice City\

In this folder right click "gta-vc.exe" and open Properties. Choose Compatibility and check "Disable visual themes". In addition, check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and choose Windows XP (Service Pack 3).

If this doesn't work, try turning "Frame Rate Limiter" on, in the game settings.

Crash when setting resolution

The game may crash when changing the resolution, however, the resolution setting is saved, so simply re-launch the game.

Y-axis mouse sensitivity is much higher than X-axis sensitivity

The simplest way to solve this issue is to set the in-game sensitivity to the default and change the mouse's sensitivity in the operating system.

Cars Reverse Slowly And Stop Quickly

If cars reverse super slowly and/or your car stops quickly after releasing the accelerator, try turning the "Frame Rate Limiter" on within the display options.

Mouse movement and/or clicking has no effect

There is an issue where moving the mouse will have no effect (with the exception of the menus) and clicking not registering at all, opening and closing the Steam overlay will resolve this issue. Alt-tabbing has a similar effect, however, this also causes the game's menu to open, and upon closing the menu, the mouse becomes unresponsive again.

Gun Crosshair is Inaccurate

Vice City has a problem in Widescreen Mode where the onscreen crosshairs are not actually where Tommy will shoot. The real aim is above and to the right of these crosshairs. Turning Widescreen off will usually fix the aiming, however if you dislike how the game looks without widescreen then there are a few options.

CD Installation Fix

A fan called "Squiddy" created their own mod and posted it on the GTA forums where it gained a positive reputation. This fix WILL NOT work with the Steam version. An excerpt from his post is below. The original post lives at http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=318680

"Fixes -

* HUD not stretched anymore

* Crosshair match hit point

* perspective adjusted

Download - http://squiddy.marway.org/gta/files/vcwidescreen.zip (http://squiddy.marway.org/gta)

Install -Extract into vice city directory. Enable the widescreen option in the display menu. Be sure to keep the file in the directory only if you're playing in widescreen. Otherwise it will affect 4:3 displays."

Steam Version

For the Steam version there is no known fix but some tips to work around this. One possible solution is to temporarily mark the point on your monitor where the true aim is, and ignore the onscreen crosshairs. Alternatively, if you use a zoom capable gun in zoomed in mode, the crosshairs will become accurate again, however in this mode you cannot run or move your character.
