Settings

How to adjust the settings of the game such as graphics, sound, resolution, key mapping, etc.:

The game has a settings-application called "Beyond Good and Evil Settings". In the steam version, it is an exe file you can double click, located in in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\beyond good and evil\SettingsApplication.exe

Graphics Issues

Texture Flickering Issues

Launch Settings and click "Advance Settings".

First Method

Disable the following:

  • HW Vertex Processing
  • Multi vertex stream
  • Autogen mipmap

For most people simply disabling HW Vertex Processing works flawlessly, HOWEVER this usually slows down the game badly, including on high-end machines, which is why some prefer the second method.

Second Method

Another popular fix is to simply disable antialiasing in the "Advance Settings" menu and checking the manual compatibility box.

If this doesn't work completely (On some machines some flickering still remains) and you have an Nvdia graphics card then you can go to your control pannel (Which may be accessed from the bottom right corner of your pc) go to the "manage 3D settings" menu, then to the "program settings" menu, add bge.exe (Which should be located in the folder where you installed the game) and finally select "override any application setting" in the anti aliasing mode.

Aspect ratio

The game was meant to be played at a 4:3 aspect ratio. To play it on any other aspect ratio, use a DX3D injector, which can be found here. Extract the files to the same folder as BGE.exe and edit the included .ini file to achieve your desired resolution. Don't forget to set the game's resolution to the same values as you did in the .ini, failing to do so will result in resolution glitches in most cases. Because the game is internally rendered in a 16:9.4 aspect ratio instead of 16:9, you will see some very small borders on both sides of the game when playing in 16:9. If you get an error prompt before launching, try installing the DX3D redists included in the fix. (All credit goes to gog.com forum user Idario for writing this fix.)

Better FPS

Launch Settings and lower the amount of anti-aliasing. Setting it to max results in 8x SSAA, which is completely unnecessary and quite demanding for older hardware.

Audio Video Sync

If you are having problems with the sound not syncing up with the picture, go launch Settings, go to "Sound Settings" and choose your Sound Card.

Using a monitor with a native refresh rate above 60Hz may also lead to sync issues. To correct this, change your refresh rate to 60Hz or use an fps limiting program such as Dxtory to set max fps to 60.

Game controller

The game only works with mouse and keyboard, so you will have to use something like XPadder or Pinnacle Game Profiler if you want to use a controller.

XPadder

Here is a suggested configuration for the xbox 360 controller. (I am not sure if it corresponds to the real XBox and XBox 360 configuration, perhaps someone could confirm this or add instructions on how this is?).

Pinnacle Game Profiler

A different profile file for commercial software Pinnacle Game Profiler also exists, which repairs the camera controls when sidestepping (which - due to no feature for it - Xpadder can not do) and is available here: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/beyond_good_and_evil/bgande_gamepad_profile
