The first 7 versions became completely free with key provided by Futuremark and they can be downloaded from legacy benchmarks section of Futuremark's site. The reference benchmarks are free in up to date versions, the more advanced settings and benchmarks are needed user to buy software.
Older versions may need patches to work on modern versions of Windows.

- - installer is 16 bit, it wont work on 64 bit natively. either installing files only possible with Virtualization, installing 32bit guests osses with 86box or VMware or VirtualBox suggested. alternatively fixed installer.
- - vsync enable by default, fixing needed for max score
3DMark2000
- - it fails MMX check, with modern proccessors, download 3DMark2000mmxcheckswitch.zip from 3dmark on modern hardware
- - some modern proccessors gives jpeg errors, download 3DM2kRyzenFix.zip file and replace
