Issues and fixes
AGEIA not found
Infernal will not run on a modern system, claiming that the PhysX SDK not installed.
The steps to fix this issue are the same as those found in Ageia PhysX driver:
- Run the PhysX installation found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\infernal. This will uninstall the existing driver, and roll you back to an earlier edition. It also breaks modern games.
- Backup the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\AGEIA Technologies before continuing.
- Install NVidia PhysX system software, version 8.09.04, found here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_8.09.04_whql.html
- Return to C:\Program Files (x86)\AGEIA Technologies, and merge the new folder contents with the backup.
- Open C:\Windows\System32 and/or C:\Windows\SysWOW64. Sort by name, and backup anything starting with PhysX (keep track of where these files were.)
- Open C:\Windows\system32\drivers, and backup any physx drivers (either physX.sys or physX64.sys)
- Open C:\Windows\System32 and/or C:\Windows\SysWOW64 and backup the AEGIS folder.
- Install the latest version of Nvidia PhysX. Drivers may be downloaded at http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us, and following the NVIDIA PhysX System Software link.
- Backup C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\PhysX\Engine.
- Copy the contents of the C:\Program Files (x86)\AGEIA Technologies backup into C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\PhysX\Engine - overwrite when prompted.
- Restore the backup of c:\windows\syswow64 and c:\windows\system32 (excluding any registry key entries)
A less convoluted fix is possible, but any files are behind registration sites. [1]
