HORI Taiko no Tatsujin Special Controller

The HORI Taiko Drum and Bachi Sets are a series of taiko drum controllers released by Hori since October 26, 2017. They were made to be played on the Taiko no Tatsujin games on consoles.

The Taiko Drum and Bachi Set is similar to its predecessor, but with some differences; While the drum inputs are the same (with left/right face inputs and left/right rim inputs) as the TaTaCon, the bottom part of the drum has traditional buttons in a more traditional game controller button layout. A pair of plastic bachi sticks were also included and the stand has a large compartment to store 2 mineral water bottles underneath.

There are two, platform-specific models that were made available. The PlayStation-4-compatible model, launched alongside Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum Sessions! for PlayStation 4 in Asia region, has the PlayStation button layout. The Switch-compatible model, launched alongside Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum 'n' Fun! for Nintendo Switch in Japan on July 19, 2018, has the Switch-Pro-controller-like button layout. Only the Switch-compatible model was made available outside of Asia countries, usually through the games' publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment. The controllers are usually sold on its own or bundled with the aforementioned Taiko no Tatsujin games.

Both models are generic DirectInput controllers, meaning that a third-party wrapper like Steam Input is required for games that only use the XInput API, with Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master! (an only entry within the Taiko no Tatsujin games to be available on Windows PC) being a prime example.
