Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is a singleplayer third-person action RPG game developed by Kaiko and published by THQ Nordic. It serves as a remaster of the 2012 game Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, developed by Big Huge Games and 38 Studios, and is THQ Nordic's first use of the property following its acquisition in 2018.[1] It was announced via Twitter in June 2020[2] after being leaked from a store listing.[3]
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning released for Windows on September 8, 2020 through the Epic Games Store, GOG, Origin and Steam. The remaster includes improved textures and lighting; quality of life changes involving character levelling and loot acquisition; a new "Very Hard" difficulty and all the downloadable content from the original release.[4]
Critic reviews and post-release user reports suggested that the game exhibits a number of technical issues, including crashing[5][6] and poor performance on high-end systems.[7][8] A new expansion titled Fatesworn was released in December 2021.[9]

Performance issues
- Several reports indicate that performance issues are present, even on hardware that is within the listed system requirements.[8][17][18][19][20][21]
- Lowering the in-game graphics options may not result in significant performance improvement.
- Using DXVK to wrap the D3D11 calls to Vulkan has shown performance improvements up to 30% at 4K, and even more at lower resolutions.[22]

- I can confirm this myself by comparing the original game to the remaster. The slight improvements of the graphics do not make sense together with the huge FPS drops and performance issues the game is suffering from currently. 270 FPS in one scene turned into 80FPS in the remaster for no apparent reason. Towns in particular are a huge drop in FPS and a GTX 1080 can't hold 60 FPS in the first small town of the game. This of course is a remaster of an 8 year old game but it just makes no sense as to why it performs this bad.

- Tested and verified myself that there's noticeable performance improvements of using DXVK. This is not a proper solution, but it alleviates the issue partially at least.
