Are you sure the VP9 fixes are needed for Returnal? As the movie files it comes with are in MP4- and M4V-formats and not VP9 (like when these are in a WEBM container). So, did you test this yourself to work when the video codec is installed and stops working when uninstalling it? Or what is your source? Just double-checking :)

Mrtnptrs (talkcontribs)

Ok, decided to test this myself and can reproduce it. I have made some edits to improve the added section and changed its title to better reflect how the issue will be experienced by users. Also added myself as the ref. Nice find btw :) Thanks for adding it to the page.

Cheers. It happens in-game as well so I've edited the page a bit to reflect that.

Well, but if you can't get into the game because the game softlocks on boot on a black screen... how did you get past this then?

Lettuceimprovegames (talkcontribs)

It didn't lock for me, it was just blank. I was still able to skip to the menu by holding space.

BTW just because the video files are in MP4/M4V format does not mean they're not encoded with the VP9 codec. MP4/M4V are just container formats; they don't dictate what codec is used to encode the video data contained within.

Oh, oops, didn't try space. That makes sense.
