Has no controller support in games?

If you have the Xinput or DualShock Dinput controllers, use Xpadder to emulate PC only FPS games. Some FPS games on PC has no controller support.

Alternative manual gear shift with controller in racing/driving games

Use the controller and remap the gear up and down with right analog stick and steering wheel. If that doesn't remap in some games, use the button, in XInput, A button for gear up and B for gear down.

Has no remapping option in games?

If that is hard to play without remapping, use PowerToys to remap controls to keyboard, or even use the controller.

Low performance, frame rate, stuttering on modern systems

If there is no support for old games, use dgVoodoo 2.

Issues with InstallShield

Launching on modern systems might fail the wizard installing old games that requires launching the uninstall program. To work launching, use WineVDM.

Installer for old games not supported on modern versions of Windows

If that this issue can't advance prompting a message, run the installer on old Windows compatibility mode.

Rally Championship Xtreme

Requires Microsoft DirectInput Mapper, remapping keys causes issues or does not bound.
Requires "Microsoft TrueSpeech codec", might causes crashing on game loading screen.

Soldier of Fortune: Payback

The game lacks an Vsync option and it causes large amount of bugs on higher frame rate. Force the Vsync on in the GPUs control panel.
Installing in retail version crashes on the first mission on modern systems. Use 1.1 patch to fix.

Grand Prix Legends

A GPLPS installer for this game is recommended for modern systems.
If that game crashes when entering to race in game after loading, disable Data Execution Prevention in Windows.

Unfortunately, setting a compatibility mode does not solve, install a game using Virtualization.

Can't run Grand Prix Championship '98 on modern systems

This game runs only on poor Windows NT compatibility on 95, 98 and ME, to play this game, use only the Virtualization.

DOSBox pre-packaged games released on GOG.com is ain't better.

To work classical games on modern versions of Windows, use dgVoodoo 2 to work properly.

High FPS issues on classic Grand Theft Auto games

It is not recommended to play on high FPS before it causes bugs, glitches and technical issues. The game only locks 30 FPS using frame limiter and does not lock to 60hz. Use a Framerate Vigilante mod to lock 60 FPS.

Games running faster than Pentium III

If that is difficult to play on high FPS, it bounds to game speed. Use the Vsync, if some games has no Vsync option, use dgVoodoo 2 to force it. For Direct3D8 on Windows 8 and 10, use d3d8to9 to work Vsync. Using installed DirectX 8 may be broken.

Frame rate issues without compatibility

If you are running on modern systems, try to run compatibility.

  1. Click on right mouse on desktop shortcut and select Properties.
  2. Click on Compatibility tab, enable compatibility mode and select Windows 98/ME.

Running on low resolution on hard setting

If you are playing on a laptop, there's no setting file on your saved files in games such as .ini file format.
Instructions
  1. Download DxWnd.
  2. Create the process.
  3. Click right mouse on icon and select Modify.
  4. At Video tab, select Initial Resolution and set to your desired low resolution to force.

Classical games on poor Windows NT compatibility can't run on modern systems.

The exclusive DirectX API was released in 1995 earlier after launching Windows 95, and some games can't run on modern systems. Some games from 1997 could run as possible within patches. For 16-bit only Windows running on 64-bit systems, use WineVDM.
