"oversaturated PNG duplicate from JPEG source"

So, one of the admins want to delete my edit, just because he doesn't like colors and states, that it's "PNG duplicate" without any evidence of this being truth? Very professional, indeed...

Well, where did the image originate from? Was its original format also PNG or was it converted TO PNG from a JPGG source. Have to agree with SirYodaJedi that the newest version of the image indeed looks a bit oversaturated compared to images found on the rest of the internet. Were there any changes made by you to the image before uploading it perhaps?

Mrtnptrs (talkcontribs)

Btw, the plan is thus to just replace this image (with the assumption made that it was originally a JPG file) with the original non-converted image in JPG format. But feel free to correct when it was indeed not converted to PNG, but that PNG was already its original format :)

As Mrtnptrs said, the image is objectively oversaturated compared to official sources, such as Steam. Additionally, I have the Wii disc case on my media shelf (bought it new back in 2008, and it hasn't faded), and can confirm that the Steam cover's colors are accurate to the disc case art. Yes, I don't like the current PNG's colors, but there is sufficient evidence to suggest the the current JPEG has the correct colors.
Zooming into the latest PNG, I can also see JPEG artefacts. I originally uploaded the 1K PNG back when JPEG thumbnails were generated at only 80% quality, so the artefacting around the red Lego logo was very ugly (our eyes are most sensitive to poor compression of the color red). Thumbnails are now generated at 95% quality, so a PNG duplicate is no longer necessary (there are still artefacts, but you have to pixel-peep to see them now). I made a similar change with Lego Lord of the Rings and am working on going through the old LucasArts titles that also do this.

Also, I'm not an admin, just a senior editor.

"Well, where did the image originate from?" Yandex Images

"Was its original format also PNG or was it converted TO PNG from a JPG source" It might've been JPG, but I had to convert it to PNG, due to how buggy uploading anything on this site is.

"Were there any changes made by you to the image before uploading it perhaps?" Yes, original image was significantly washed out, but I didn't played with colors too much, only with contrast in Paint.net

"the plan is thus to just replace this image (with the assumption made that it was originally a JPG file) with the original non-converted image in JPG format" In that case I see no problem, I only wish, that I could've done this before without convertion.

"It might've been JPG, but I had to convert it to PNG, due to how buggy uploading anything on this site is." It isn't buggy, but as stated when you try to upload a new version of an image, it has to have the same final name and thus also the same file extension.
"Yes, original image was significantly washed out, but I didn't played with colors too much, only with contrast in Paint.net" Likely because of the Yandex site and your work on the image probably caused the bit oversaturated effect sadly.
"In that case I see no problem, I only wish, that I could've done this before without convertion." If only we knew everything haha, shit happens, now you know it for next time at least that thus the original file extension of images are preferred, even if it is not PNG.
