As Steam version still supplies CD keys and those CD keys can be viewed as long as Steam Play is enabled, I prefer people to get legitimate copies from Steam rather than consulting "near piracy." The mentioned method won't work with online multiplayer anyway.
The point isn't for online multiplayer; the GOG version doesn't have multiplayer. The point is that the Linux version asks for a CD Key, even though they bought a from GOG, and therefore don't have a CD Key.
Also, it is more logical to use a native (official) Linux port, rather than rely on a modified WINE wrapper.
