Requirement of a Social Club account

Yesorno (talkcontribs)

If it hasn't been confirmed, why is it on the wiki page? Since when do wikis assume things?

Blackbird (talkcontribs)

There is no need to confirm anything. GTAIV PC needs it for MP. Max Payne 3 PC needs it for MP. GTAV on consoles needs it for MP. It's completely obvious PC version will use it as well especially when the iFruit app for iOS/Android which uses Social Club login has unused files for PC version.

Alexrd (talkcontribs)

Still, it's all an assumption until Rockstar confirms it and a Wiki doesn't work by assumptions.

Anonymous (talkcontribs)

Then why not take the path of least resistance and edit out the assumptions on the Grand Theft Auto 5 wiki page? This whole wiki is publicly-editable.

Alexrd (talkcontribs)

To prevent an edit war?

Anonymous (talkcontribs)

No, because, like Yesorno said, a Wiki doesn't work by assumptions - and this article, as far as he and you seem concerned, has some assumptions in it.

Of course, that likely would start a flame war as you and others have pointed out, but such a change would likely be quickly undone by the moderators as, if the statement made by Pridit, one of PCGamingWiki's moderators, is any indication, the moderators find the statement in question to not be an assumption. Unless you or Yesorno want to appeal to the site owner/administrator, continuing your argumentation will likely prove futile.

EDIT: Apologizes to Alexrd for incorrect association of opinion.

Blackbird (talkcontribs)

Yeah it's such a assumption they'll use their own MP system like they always did. I'm sure they'll switch to something else for the PC version just because.

Pridit (talkcontribs)

It's not an assumption, it's based on previous titles and various leaks from their Social Club website that has the inclusion of PC. For the sake of argument, it stays until it's confirmed otherwise since I've seen too much to support the likelihood of the requirement and nothing in the way of not. I've added a [citation needed] tag on it which means it does need a reference, and the second one is available it will be added. If you can provide anything that may suggest this will not be the case, I'm happy for you to state as such and use it as grounds for removal. But right now, there's just too much that hints towards it and the only thing we're missing is a confirmation which shouldn't be far off.

Alexrd (talkcontribs)

Yes, it is an assumption (based on past games) until it's confirmed. And for the sake of accuracy, it should be removed until it's confirmed (like it's done for every other similar information). And the [citation needed] tag doesn't mean it doesn't need a reference, in fact, it means a reference is needed to prove it. Since there is none (officially), it continues to be speculation.

Marioysikax (talkcontribs)

Even if it's almost certain they will use it there isn't any confirmation about it and they could easily still drop it or make it optional. However I would still leave it as it is reason Pridit said that it has been hinted everywhere and all rockstar games have been using social club for quite while, including console versions where you should be able to import progress and how would you do it other way than social club? Another reason being it would definitly start edit war.

[citation needed] is good in this case as it does hint for readers that it isn't fully confirmed by any source as of yet even if it isn't exaclty right way to use CN.

Pridit (talkcontribs)

I know the applicable use of the citation needed tag thanks, re-read what I said. It does need a reference and as soon as one is available it will be stated unless there is anything at all to suggest it will not use RSC. This is partly to prevent an edit war, and considering the history, leaked information and the fact the console version requires RSC it's more than likely they will use it. Controversial statements like these are allowed, even if not proved at this juncture, if they have warrant to be there so that we can adequately inform readers. It's not added without any basis what so ever, and is not pure speculation, so it stays.

Yesorno (talkcontribs)

I agree with the others. If there's no source, then it's not a fact. It's an assumption.

PlayaOfGames (talkcontribs)

This really you people are arguing if it will use rockstar social club the answer is yes all rockstar games and future games are using it hell the answers in the faq on steam forums of gta 5.

Q: Will there be Games for Windows Live(GFWL) like GTA IV? A: There will not be GFWL as it is only continuing support for existing content. GTA V will be integrated with Rockstar Social Club, a great tool for tracking stats, achievements, rewards, Crews, and much more.

Marioysikax (talkcontribs)

This talk was before there were FAQ available. I'll remove [citation needed] from the page.
